About Us
Dorchester Residents for Planned Growth arose from the need for a better way to communicate with the residents of Dorchester County about important growth issues.  The Coastal Conservation League provided guidance and support in the formation of this website, but Dorchester Residents for Planned Growth is an independent entity, and the ideas and opinions expressed on this site will reflect those of  members of the community who have dedicated their time and energy to encourage growth management strategies in Dorchester County that preserve and restore quality of life for residents.

Our hope is that Dorchester Residents for Planned Growth will provide an opportunity for residents to get more involved in the county’s growth management efforts.  By providing information on growth issues, public meetings and other means of affecting public policy, we will strive to make a positive difference in Dorchester County.

Letter of Introduction

Hello Everyone,

We would like to introduce you to Dorchester Residents for Planned Growth represented by a new website dedicated to addressing growth issues in Dorchester County through education and communication (www.plandorchester.com).  The intent of this effort is to provide an unbiased and comprehensive source of information on growth issues, to update residents on upcoming public meetings dealing with growth planning, and to provide contact information to facilitate public input.

Whether it’s contributing suggestions, alerting us to pertinent information, helping to update the website, signing up for email updates, or simply forwarding this information to friends and neighbors, everyone is welcome and encouraged to become a part of this effort.

The Coastal Conservation League lent their organizational skills and time to help with the creation of this site, but the information put forth by Dorchester Residents for Planned Growth will come from residents of this county who operate the site and those who choose to join it.  This is also a vehicle for you to use to make your voice heard, and the more people we have involved, the louder that voice will be.

The recent announcement to begin the development of over 70,000 acres of timberland in Charleston and Dorchester Counties by MeadWestvaco demonstrates what a crucial time this has become for the county and the region.  In addition, Dorchester County is in the process of updating its Comprehensive Plan which includes critical land use decisions.  It will be up to residents like us to tell our elected officials what we want and to hold them accountable if they don’t listen.

Thank you for your support and your willingness to pass this along to others who may be interested.

With best regards,

Sue Wehman
